The Mermaid

Cerys’ addition to the Underwater Sculpture Trail & Artificial Reef Project is a Bronze Mermaid with a Humpback Whale Tail that measures approximately 3.2 metres along its leading edge; and approximately 2 metres wide from tip to tip.

The face and body of the mermaid have been constructed mostly from bronze, allowing for fine detail, strength, and weight. The hair and tail fluke has been constructed from metal bar of varying gauges with a lighter gauge bar in a bespoke mesh pattern to provide rigidity and support for marine growth.
What makes her unique is her Humpback Whale Tail instead of a traditional fish tail – a truly amazing addition by Cerys that will maximise the potential marine life growth by creating a large surface area for corals and sponges to attach to.

Cerys is a local artist with a passion for creating large bronze sculptures, with her Yallingup Surfer Man over eight feet tall and around three metres long. Her bronze statue brings a bit of softness to our Artificial Reef and we cannot wait to see her in her natural environment!
